The Yad Yehuda USDA KOsher Meal Program
In response to the Covid-19 crisis, the State of Maryland together with the USDA has been providing free meals to all children age 18 and under. Yad Yehuda has been approved as a distribution site for this program. There is no charge for these meals. All households with children age 18 and under are eligible to participate in this USDA program. Due to the current health emergency, the income eligibility requirement has been waived.
Watch video below to get an inside look at the Yad Yehuda USDA food program. Learn what our wonderful community can do when we all work together to feed our kids. See the energy, organization and enthusiasm that our vendors, coordinators, and volunteers all bring to this chesed effort.
Please pre-order your meals for the coming week by visiting https://usda.yadyehuda.org
It is very important that you pre-order so our vendors (Ben Yehuda Pizza and Shalom Kosher) will know how many meals to prepare. Meals will be available for those who do not pre-order but we urge you to assist us by using the pre-order process.

Guidelines To Ensure A Safe And Efficient Distribution Process
- Pre-orders must be placed by 10:00 pm the Monday prior to pickup.
- PICK-UP SCHEDULE: Meal distribution will begin at 6:00 pm and will end promptly at 8:00 pm. Please arrive during those times only.
- 6:00 – 7:00: Distribution of pre-ordered meals ONLY
- 7:00 – 8:00: Distribution of meals to all
- For social distancing purposes, all meals will be delivered into CARS ONLY.
- All cars MUST have a PASSENGER-SIDE DASHBOARD SIGN showing the name and number of children age 18 and under for whom you are picking up meals. When you order online, the system will automatically generate a sign for you to print, or you may print your own sign to keep in your car (please see sample sign below). If you do not display a sign, you will be pulled aside to create a sign before being allowed back in line to collect your children's meals.
- Distribution will be contactless to protect your health and that of our volunteers. Your PASSENGER-SIDE REAR SEAT should be empty so our volunteers can place meals into that side of the car. Meals will only be placed in your trunk if you can automatically open and close it from inside the vehicle. Our volunteers will not open or close the trunk or car doors for you.
- Please be sure your rear passenger window is open or the rear passenger side door is ajar before you reach the meal distribution area.
- Please remain in your car at all times and follow the signals of the people directing traffic.
We’re grateful to our distribution center volunteers. We have a great team but we could use more help.
If you’re available to volunteer, please email Zahava Bensimon at [email protected].
As Jewish communities in the Greater Washington area continue to grow, so have the number of families and individuals needing assistance. As a volunteer staffed organization, every dollar donated translates into direct assistance. Please consider making a donation of any amount.
